Stratford Academy The Stratford Alumni Association awards two recognitions at commencement honoring alumni of the school. The Distinguished Alumnus(a) Award for Outstanding Career Achievement and the Alumni Service Award both were inaugurated in 1986 and all graduates of Stratford Academy are eligible for these awards. The Distinguished Alumnus(a) Award goes to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution through his/her vocation or who otherwise deserves to be recognized for outstanding achievement in some field or endeavor. Alumni in the fields of law, medicine, education, business, ministry and the arts have been recognized for their career achievements and excelling in their chosen fields by making a difference in the world around them. Distinguished Alumnus(a) Award for Outstanding Career Achievement The 2021 recipient of the Distinguished Alumna Award is Dr. Tanzy Dorsey Kilcrease, Class of 1988. Tanzy is a dedicated and passionate educator with over 25 years of leadership in the public education arena. Currently, she is the Chief of Staff for the Bibb County School District and prior to that role she served as Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning for six years. Her work in professional learning and curriculum design has been featured at state and national conferences, in professional journals, and included in two books for educators, while her leadership has benefitted thousands of students in Bibb and Crawford counties.
Tanzy has been recognized by Georgia College and State University, named as one of the two national finalists for the AASA School Superintendents Association Women in School Leadership Award, and is the recipient of the 2021 AASA Women in School Leadership Award. In addition to her professional accomplishments, she is an active community volunteer and spends her "free time" serving the Rotary Club of Macon, the Griffith Family Foundation, Macon Crisis Line & Safe House, and the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia.

The Alumni Service Award was created to recognize service to Stratford Academy by its alumni. Volunteer service to the school has been an important part of our growth and success, and our alumni have always been a critical source of this kind of volunteer service. The 2021 recipient of this recognition is Tom McAfee, Class of 1986. A long-time supporter and participant in Stratford's fine arts program, Tom's volunteer efforts for Stratford reach far beyond music, chorus, and theatre. From 2013-2017, he and his wife, Julie, served as co-chairs for Phase II of the Excellence Never Rests capital campaign for Stratford, which is responsible for funding the construction of the Cantrell Lower School and Daws Student Activities Center. In 2014, Tom accepted a position on Stratford's Board of Trustees and has served in leadership roles as the Advancement and Technology committee chairs. Over the last few years, Tom has tirelessly work to research, install, and implement audiovisual capabilities on Stratford's campus, including new sound and livestreaming equipment in the Tift Auditorium, Grady Smith Gymnasium, Cantrell Stadium, and Hutchinson Soccer Complex. He patiently has worked alongside Stratford faculty/staff to train members of the community, including students, on these new systems. During Tom's student days, he was an active member of Stratford's band, chorus, and theatre programs. So it is not surprising that on Football Friday nights, you will find Tom and Julie volunteering to help the Spirit of Stratford Marching Band prepare for their performance or that during winter and spring musicals, he can be found in the AV booth serving as technical director for the production and teaching students how to serve in this key role. In addition to all that Tom has done for Stratford Academy, he is also a successful businessman and community volunteer. He is married to Julie Crangle McAfee and is the father to Stratford sixth grader, Malin, and eighth grader, Zoe. Both recipients will be honored during the 2021 commencement exercises on May 29 at Stratford Academy.
