Alumni Awards

Stratford Academy Recognizes 2018 Alumni Awards Recipients

In 1986, Stratford inaugurated the Alumni Award recognitions. Since that time, alumni have been recognized during the school's commencement exercises.

The Distinguished Alumnus/a Award for Outstanding Career Achievement goes to an individual who has made outstanding contributions through his/her vocation or who otherwise deserves to be recognized for outstanding achievement in some field or endeavor. Alumni in the fields of law, medicine, education, business, military, ministry and the arts have been recognized for their career achievements and excelling in their chosen fields and making a difference in the world around them. The 2018 recipient of this award is Dr. W. Morris Brown III. Morris has distinguished himself in the field of medicine as a cardio-thoracic surgeon. Following his graduation from Stratford in 1977, Morris attended Emory University graduating cum laude in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. He went on to the Medical College of Georgia and received his degree in 1985. Upon completion of his Internship and Residency at Emory University affiliated hospitals, Morris served fellowships in research and cardio-thoracic surgery at Emory hospitals. He joined Piedmont Hospital in 2001 and became Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery in 2007. In 2017, Morris was named Piedmont Heart Institute Physician of the Year.

The Alumni Service Award also dates back to 1986. The award was formed to recognize service to Stratford Academy by its alumni. Volunteer service to the school has been an important part of our growth and success, and our alumni have always been a critical source of this kind of volunteer service. The recipient of this year's award is Robbo Hatcher, Class of 1982. Robbo’s service to Stratford started early as he served as class treasurer and chairman of the student leadership board his senior year. Since then, Robbo has served Stratford in many capacities including the Board of Trustees where he has held numerous leadership roles including Board Chair, Development Chair, Treasurer and Co-Chair of Phase I of the recent Excellence Never Rests capital campaign. His involvement in the capital campaign played an integral role in the building of the science center, tennis complex, field house, golf pavilion and loop road. Robbo has served as a member of long range planning teams and the Head of School search committee. His was a familiar face in the soccer concession stand when his son played and he has graciously opened his home for numerous class reunions. Robbo and his wife, Betsy, have two children who are Stratford alumni, Felton '16 and Janie '17.

Recipients were recognized during the 2018 commencement exercises on May 25, at the Macon City Auditorium.
