Learning Support Center

Stratford Academy’s Learning Support Center is dedicated to helping students in grades 1–12 reach their full academic potential. Established in 1998, the center offers individualized and small-group instruction for students who may be experiencing academic challenges. Staffed by experienced learning specialists, tutors, and part-time teachers, the center supports a wide range of learning needs and differences while aligning with Stratford’s rigorous academic standards.

Our goal is to empower students to become confident, independent, life-long learners through tailored academic support, executive functioning coaching, and skills development.

Whether a student needs short-term academic assistance or long-term learning strategies, the Learning Support Center works in partnership with families and teachers to foster success in and beyond the classroom.

Overview of the LSC

Individualized Academic Support

One-on-one instruction tailored to a student’s specific needs—reinforcing classroom learning, closing skill gaps, and strengthening understanding of core concepts. Support is designed to build confidence and independence while maintaining Stratford’s rigorous academic expectations.

Small Group Instruction

Targeted, small-group sessions that address shared skill needs—such as reading strategies, writing development, or math foundations. Students benefit from direct teaching, guided practice, and peer learning in a supportive setting that still feels focused and personalized.

Executive Functioning Coaching

Coaching that helps students plan, organize, and follow through. We teach practical strategies for time management, prioritizing tasks, keeping track of assignments, breaking down long-term projects, and developing routines that support success in and beyond the classroom.

Study Skills and Test Preparation

Direct instruction in effective study habits, note-taking, test strategies, and review routines. Students learn how to prepare with purpose, manage test anxiety, and demonstrate what they know—especially as academic demands increase in middle and upper school.

Empowering Independent Learners

We teach students how to learn—goal-setting, self-advocacy, perseverance, and using strategies consistently. The focus is on helping students take ownership of their progress and build the confidence to approach challenges with a plan.

Family Partnership and Communication

We collaborate closely with families through shared goal-setting and ongoing communication. Regular updates help parents understand strategies that work, reinforce skills at home, and stay aligned with classroom expectations—creating consistent support that strengthens student growth.

While the Learning Support Center provides greater flexibility in supporting students, it does not alter Stratford Academy’s selective admissions standards.
