Smith will provide leadership across grades 6–12 for the 2026-2027 school year, bringing more than 22 years of experience in education and a deep commitment to the Stratford community.

Stratford Academy has named Mr. Jarvis Smith Interim Head of Secondary Education for the 2026-2027 school year. In this role, Smith will provide leadership across grades 6–12, working closely with Mr. Stephen O’Hara, Assistant Head of Secondary Education in Academics, and the broader Middle and Upper School leadership team.

Each division will continue to maintain its own identity, routines, and structure while benefiting from stronger alignment and more intentional support for students and families across grades 6–12.

Smith’s appointment follows the announcement that Ms. Anna Dejdar has accepted the position of Associate Head of Upper School at Mount Vernon School in Atlanta, Georgia, beginning July 6, 2026. Stratford is grateful for Dejdar’s leadership and contributions to the school community and congratulates her on this next opportunity.

Smith is a trusted member of the Stratford community, serving as a parent, coach, and administrator. He brings more than 22 years of experience in education and holds a Master of Arts with a concentration in Secondary Education. His career includes administrative roles such as Upper School Principal for grades 7–12, Assistant Athletic Director, and Dean of Students. He has worked extensively with Middle and Upper School students, supporting student life, discipline systems, athletics, faculty leadership, and school culture.

Across his career, Smith has built a reputation as a relational leader who brings structure, accountability, encouragement, and care to his work with both students and families.

Smith shared, “During my time at Stratford, I have developed a deep belief in our school, our mission, and our community. I am honored and excited to lead Stratford in the role of Interim Head of Secondary Education and embrace the opportunity to help guide our school as we continue building on our success.”

Board of Trustees Chair Sandy Burgess expressed support for the leadership team’s plan.

“Mr. Smith brings the experience and steady leadership needed for this interim role,” Burgess said. “We appreciate the care and intentionality that have gone into this decision and are confident our Middle and Upper School divisions are well positioned for the year ahead.”

To ensure the permanent search is aligned with Stratford’s broader leadership transition, the search for the permanent Head of Secondary Education will begin after the Interim Head of School is in place.
