Jack Jones '25: Not Your Average Aquarium Visitor

Junior Jack Jones isn't your average aquarium visitor. He has taken his love for marine life to a coveted internship at the Georgia Aquarium.

He has been a devoted season pass holder for the past three years. While browsing the aquarium's website to renew his membership, Jack stumbled upon the Environmental Leadership Program description. Recognizing this opportunity to merge his passion with practical experience, Jack knew he had to apply.

The application process was a rigorous six-week program that tested Jack's knowledge and commitment. From attending virtual information sessions to writing essays and delivering presentations, Jack demonstrated his scientific understanding and personal goals. His dedication paid off, and he was selected to join the 2024 Environmental Leadership Program.

Twice a month, Jack is a gallery guide on the aquarium floor. He answers questions from a diverse range of visitors, even utilizing translation apps to bridge the communication gap with international guests. His day is full of activity, with hourly rotations which consist of assisting with touch pools, educating guests about the fascinating underwater world, and ensuring the safety of the animals.

Jack's passion for the environment extends beyond the aquarium walls as the vice president of Stratford's Ecology Club. He is active in environmental causes and participates in initiatives like "Sweep the Hooch," a day dedicated to cleaning up the Chattahoochee River. This dedication to conservation aligns perfectly with the Georgia Aquarium's mission, which includes working closely with environmental groups to protect animals and their habitats.

With a clear path toward studying biology and environmental science in college, Jack's internship is a stepping stone on his journey. Jack's story is an inspiration to all aspiring young environmentalists, demonstrating that dedication and a genuine passion can open doors to extraordinary opportunities.
