Middle School Math Teacher
Stratford Academy seeks a math teacher for middle school dedicated to educating children. The teacher will be expected to create a welcoming classroom environment where students can learn and grow. The Lower School STEAM Teacher designs and delivers engaging, hands-on instruction that integrates science, technology, engineering, and creative problem-solving for students in Pre-School through Grade 5. Controller
Job Title: Accountant/Controller
Supervisor’s Title: Head of Finance and Operations
Status: Full-time, exempt administrative (12-month position)
Location: Stratford Academy
The Accountant/Controller is a full-time, 12-month administrative position (June 1 – May 31) reporting directly to the Head of Finance and Operations. The Controller serves as a financial manager with primary responsibility for the accounting functions and internal control systems of the school through the daily operations of the Business Office.
This role requires the consistent exercise of professional judgment to ensure the accurate capture of financial transactions, the integrity of financial records, and the timeliness and accuracy of financial reporting. The Controller manages the internal control environment and related workflows in the accounting and bookkeeping activities. Under the direction of the Head of Finance and Operations, the Controller establishes and maintains accounting policies and procedures that safeguard the school’s financial information systems and support sound fiscal management.
Primary Responsibilities
- Establishes and maintains accounting policies and procedures that provide clear, understandable guidance for processing the school’s financial transactions.
- Designs, develops, implements, and tests internal controls to safeguard the school’s assets and strengthen the overall financial system.
- Manages, trains, and supports Business Office staff in best accounting practices and processes in alignment with the school’s financial objectives.
- Completes daily and monthly student billing, bank and investment reconciliations, AR/AP entries, and other accounting entries related to non-profit accounting procedures.
- Prepares accounting schedules accurately and in a timely manner.
- Prepares and delivers timely, informative monthly financial reports, including budget analyses and cost-benefit reporting for academic program directors and operations managers.
- Provides accurate and timely financial statements and reports as requested by the Head of Finance and Operations for presentation to the Board of Trustees.
- Supports the Head of Finance and Operations by providing financial analysis and data necessary for strategic and operational decision-making.
- Serves as the primary lead for audit preparation, including completion of questionnaires, preparation of schedules, journal entries, and fulfillment of audit team information requests.
- Ensures compliance with all required state, federal, association, and insurance reporting requirements.
- Maintains proficient and effective use of the school’s computerized accounting system, Blackbaud Financial Edge, from data entry through reporting, and implements internal controls to protect the integrity of financial and electronic data.
- Sets and upholds high standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, and personal integrity within the Business Office, and supports the Head of Finance and Operations in fostering transparency in financial processes.
- Maintains a professional, service-oriented approach in all interactions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 15 years of progressive accounting and management experience, with at least 10 years of experience in the nonprofit or education sector preferred. CPA, CMA, or comparable professional certification preferred. Expert knowledge and application of FASB, GAAP, and SAS standards.
Demonstrated expertise in designing and managing internal control systems. Strong reconciliation skills and the ability to manage accounting processes from transaction entry through monthly financial reporting. Proven ability to train and supervise staff in accounting procedures and best practices. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills.
High cultural competency and a demonstrated commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Ability to manage multiple complex tasks and projects with minimal supervision.
