Upper School Principal's Message
The Upper School’s college
preparatory curriculum and interesting array of extracurricular
activities provide students myriad opportunities to grow intellectually
as well as emotionally. Designed to prepare students for the academic
demands of college, the Upper School's curriculum boasts a rigorous
core as well as sixteen Advanced Placement courses and a variety of
electives from Acting to Comparative Religions, Photography to Human
Genetics. A dedicated Upper School faculty encourages students toward
intellectual independence in a climate that rewards creative thought,
and small class size creates an atmosphere of trust that invites
students to take intellectual risks. Stratford graduates attribute
their smooth transition into demanding college programs to their
well-developed critical thinking skills, their knowledge-base in core
disciplines, and their excellent skills in writing and math. Outside
the classroom, opportunities for fun and personal growth abound.
Students participate in a variety of extracurricular activities and
sports. Whether they choose football, ultimate Frisbee, a role in the
winter musical or a spot on Stratford's nationally recognized debate
team, Stratford students have multiple opportunities for participation
in the life of the school. Eighteen varsity sports teams provide broad
opportunity for participation in athletics while twenty-four clubs and
other organizations offer a different array of entertaining,
educational activities.
