After graduating three seniors in 2012, the Fastpitch Eaglettes hoped to find success once again in 2013 and bring home an unprecedented fifth straight state title in their last year in the GISA. Under the leadership of lone senior, Andi Schilling, the Eaglettes would finish the season with a 20-9 record, a record which was not entirely reflective of all the team accomplished during the season. For the first time in four years, Coach Treadway, Coach Long and the Eaglettes went undefeated in Region 2-AAA play, winning the region title by defeating rivals Westfield and Southland twice each during regular season play. Positioned well moving into the GISA AAA state playoffs, the Eaglettes hosted MDS in the first round and Pinewood in the second round defeating each of the teams in a best two out of three series. In the final four Stratford defeated hometown rival Tattnall Square in game one, but then fell to Westfield and Tattnall in the next two games to finish the state tournament in third place. The small squad of 12 players, which included two eighth graders, battled hard, but was unable to capture a fifth state title. Moving into the GHSA in 2014 will be a challenge, but one for which the Fastpitch Eaglettes are ready. The team will return seven seasoned seniors next season and should be positioned for great success in 2014. Congratulations to senior Andi Schilling, juniors Morgan Maier, Mary Elizabeth Wade, Lucy Bobbitt, Amelia Brown, McKenna Sibley and sophomores Avery Layton and Mary Wilson Avant for being named to the 2013 GISA 2-AAA All Region Team. Schilling, Sibley and Avant also received All-State honors.
