Financial Aid Policy

Stratford Academy is committed to providing educational opportunities to deserving students. Stratford offers a limited amount of financial assistance based on a family's financial need as determined by The School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS), a division of the Education Testing Service. Families are required to submit a financial statement to SSS, with a $41.00 fee for analysis and send a copy of this same financial statement, with a most recent 1040 form, to Stratford Academy. SSS calculates the amount of demonstrated need and files a report with Stratford.

Families have two methods by which they can submit an application to SSS. Families wishing to submit an application on-line may do so by visiting http://sssbynais.org/parents or, if preferred, families may apply by completing the Parent's Financial Statement (PFS) which is available upon request in the Admissions Office.

Students applying for admission to Stratford do so with the understanding that admission decisions are based on a student's abilities and the potential for contribution to the life of our school. The ability to pay tuition does not play a part in the Admissions Committee's decision to offer or deny admission to any applicant. Families must understand, however, that because of our limited financial resources, need can not be met in all cases. All recipients of financial aid are expected to remain in good academic standing, exhibit exemplary behavior and remain current in their financial obligations to the school. Failure to comply with any of these expectations may result in the termination of the financial aid award.

While deciding who receives financial aid is a difficult task, certain guidelines have been established to give order to this process. The following groups represent the order in which financial assistance will be considered:

A) Returning students already receiving financial aid
B) Returning students not previously receiving financial aid
C) Newly accepted students who qualify for financial aid

Financial aid grants are awarded only on a one year basis. The application process with SSS must be repeated each year of a student's enrollment at Stratford. The Financial Aid Committee also considers the student's overall academic, social, and disciplinary record at the school in making decisions about financial aid for returning students. All information regarding financial aid is held in the strictest confidence by the Financial Aid Committee.
